They may well have to take on a Bulls team – still smarting from a 20-43 loss to the Free State Cheetahs this past weekend – without the services of a number of their most senior players.

Captain Schalk Ferreira is top of the list of doubtful starters.

The veteran prop will be going for a scan, after suffering a groin strain in the loss to the Cavaliers at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last Friday.

Kings coach Barend Pieterse added that lock Cornell Hess – one of a handful of players remaining from the Southern Kings Super Rugby squad – would also be going for scans of his right ankle.

Hess suffered the injury during the captain's run last Thursday, which saw him being withdrawn from the playing squad.

Pieterse said fellow lock Mthetheleli Fuzani would also be going for x-rays of his wrist, after being injured in the match against Boland.

However, the coach was optimistic that the injury would not rule him out of contention for selection for the game against the Bulls.

Pieterse said scrumhalf Ricky Schroeder also had a minor ankle injury, suffered against the Cavaliers, and was being monitored by the medical team.

However, he was also still in contention for selection for Friday's game.
