Sharks targeting three wins in eight days

The Currie Cup enters a busy schedule, which sees teams play a midweek game in between the normal weekend fixtures.

The Sharks take on Griquas in Durban this Friday before they travel to Pretoria to take on the Blue Bulls next Wednesday. They then finish their eight-day schedule with another tough clash against the Golden Lions next Saturday.

"We have set ourselves a goal of going undefeated now and I think it is very achievable goal if you look at the squad we have," said Sharks centre Jeremy Ward.

"We are a Sharks team that really wants to do well in this competition. We know it is going to be tough this next three games, but if you look at the depth in the squad, we have got the means to put in three wins and get good results now.

"If we do, we set ourselves up for a good second half of the tournament."

Ward believes that continuity in terms of selection from Super Rugby will help them achieve success in this year's Currie Cup.

"There is some good continuity and that is going to start shining through now when we get going in Currie Cup.

"We know each other really well and have been training with each other the whole year.

"As far as combinations go, we are pretty set. We are just hoping to deliver some consistent performances now throughout the Currie Cup," Ward added.

Ward is also looking forward to building a strong combination with Lukhanyo Am in the midfield after Andre Esterhuizen decided to play in Japan during the Currie Cup season.

"We have switched positions now. Lukhanyo is running on the inside [No.12] and I am on the outside [No.13], so last week we had to get to know each other again in different positions.

"We really get along well off the field and we started training really well together, so we are hoping that we can build a really good relationship on the field and hopefully we can start delivering proper performances together," he said.
