Chiefs beat Warriors in brutal arm-wrestle

It was not until the 77th minute that the Chiefs managed to edge clear with a Sam Simmonds try.

Warriors got off to a perfect start, leading 10-0 in as many minutes.

However, the Chiefs showed their championship qualities to fight back and by half-time held a 14-10 lead.

That became 17-10, before a Lee Jones try allowed the Scottish visitors at  Sandy Park yo close the gap to just two points – 15-17.

Simmonds sealed the win a with sneaky try, diving under a pile of bodies at a ruck.

Glasgow started strongly and crossed through Sam Seymour, with Finn Russell adding the conversion and a penalty to go 10-0 up after 11 minutes.

Harry Williams and Jonny Hill led a Chiefs revival with a try apiece, both converted by Gareth Steenson.

Warriors were only 15-17 behind when Lee Jones scored a try on 44 minutes, but after an attritional second half, Simmonds touched down under a pile of bodies with three minutes left to seal the game for the Chiefs.

Their defeat ends Glasgow's winning start to the season and means they have won only two of 20 European away games against Premiership opposition.

This was the third meeting in Europe between these sides, with Glasgow winning on both previous occasions.
