Patchy Sarries needs to improve

Braces from Nathan Earle and Jackson Wray combined with first-half scores from Sean Maitland and Ben Spencer to give Sarries a 46-31 win which keeps them second in the Premiership.

The Men in Black travel to face Wasps next week and McCall said that his side needed to be better despite getting all the points on offer with a six-try win.

"The players were pretty clear at half-time that our intent and energy levels weren't anywhere near where they needed to be, whether that was chasing kicks, line-speed and getting to breakdowns it just needed to pick up across the squad," McCall said.

"I think it did, in fairness, for 25-30 minutes of that second-half we looked like a really good team."

However, the Sarries boss said that the performance was not what he was hoping for, save for a spell in the second-half where Wray and Earle notched up two apiece.

"I thought it was a very patchy performance to be honest, there was a period in the second-half from 50-75 minutes where we played outstandingly well; some brilliant passages and 'proper' rugby," he added.

"There were too many passages where it wasn't like that, when it was good we had intensity, intent and physicality; we lacked those qualities in the first-half and I thought we were completely off the ball, Worcester played well but I felt we stood off them."

On a positive note, Michael Rhodes was awarded man of the match after a great performance on his return to the starting line-up and McCall said that it was the mark of just how good the back row forward is.

"It was a very good performance for Michael, he's been out for a long-time and for him to play 80 minutes at the level he played at today was very encouraging and shows you just how good a player he is."
