Warriors punish ill-disciplined Gloucester
Warriors punish ill-disciplined GloucesterSHARE
Having won none of their first seven in the league this season, the Warriors have now won five of their last eight.
The Warriors – who downed defending champions Exeter Chiefs last weekend at Sandy Park – went over for three first-half tries through Jonny Arr, Jamie Shillcock and Josh Adams.
The Cherry & Whites – pushing hard for a top-four finish this season – did cross for two tries of their own, Matt Scott in the first half and Henry Trinder in the second.
But it was not enough as the boot of Chris Pennell denied them even a losing bonus point and left the Sixways faithful flying high.
Arr went over in his first start back after four months out with injury, darting through the middle of a ruck.
And when Pennell and Bryce Heem combined down the right, Shillock had the simple job of diving over for their second soon after.
But back came Gloucester, Heem dropped a ball in midfield and Scott hacked through, collected and dived over under the posts and with a Twelvetrees penalty it was only 14-10 to the hosts.
However, the hosts struck again in the first half, Trinder shown a yellow for denying Heem close to the line and when the ball came left Adams had a walk in with no opposite man to defend him.
That was Adams’ tenth of the season so far and takes him back out on top of the league scoring charts, as well as breaking Worcester’s single season top-flight record.
A Pennell penalty made it 22-10 but it was Gloucester who got the only try of the second half, Billy Burns – shifted to fullback early on due to an injury to Tom Marshall – feeding Trinder back on the inside to go over in the left corner.
Twelvetrees could not add the extras while Pennell slotted another penalty up the other end and 25-15 was how it stayed as the Warriors continued their fantastic second-half to the season.
