Rennie impressed with Warriors' defence

In torrential rain and swirling winds, second half tries from Ali Price and Lee Jones ensured that Rennie’s first game in charge ended in a 18-12 victory.

Speaking after the game Rennie said: "We put a lot of pressure on them, turned the ball over well and I thought our line out defence was excellent, we made it really difficult for them at set piece. Character wise and attitude wise they were great,"

"I’m not overly wrapped with our kicking game in the second half, I think we could have used the wind a lot better instead of playing a lot of the game inside our own half.

Four players pulled on a Warrior jersey for the first time at the Sportsground and Rennie was impressed with how the whole squad dealt with the difficult conditions.

He said; "We had a lot of guys on debut for who it will have been a special night and Alex Dunbar played his 100th.

"You know what you get with Alex, he’s very direct, good defensively in the post tackle. It’s special to play 100 games for a club, he had all his mates out there playing with him tonight so I’m sure he enjoyed it.

"We knew it would be tough, the conditions were tough for both sides and I think we did pretty well into the wind.

"We held them out for long periods, we can be a hell of a lot better but it’s important to win those games especially against teams in our own conference.

"It’s important to get points away from home, especially against teams in your own conference, the Cheetahs and Cardiff got knocked over this weekend so it’s been a good weekend for us from that point of view,"

In terms of injury concerns, Adam Hastings sustained an extensive laceration to his right thigh.

He was taken to a hospital immediately, seen, reviewed and discharged Saturday.

At present there is no return to play date, Hastings will be reviewed by the Glasgow Warriors medical staff over the next couple of days to determine how long he will be unavailable.

Sam Johnson is progressing well following a head knock and will be reviewed at the beginning of the week before starting the return to play protocols.
