Stapelberg gets high praise from Cheetahs captain

Stapelberg, 22, contributed 18 points with the boot in the victory and also played a big part in an impressive Cheetahs' attack and defensive display against the Irish giants.

"He had a solid game," said Venter.

"I think his kicking was superb and managing the game as well. It is just great to see a guy calming down a bit, being more relaxed.

"It looked like he had time on the ball as well.

"I think we got talented flyhalves coming through and guys coming back from injury. I think we have depth here at the Free State and that is just a plus for Free State Rugby."

The Cheetahs physically dominated Leinster for large periods of the game in Bloemfontein, especially on defence where the Irish side looked flustered under pressure.

Venter, as well as loose forward Teboho Mohoje, were two of the many standout performers on the day.

"You could see attitude on defence and attitude working back. We built a wall and we said come try and cut us, so that's the only change – attitude in defence, the way we tackled them.

"Credit to Leinster as well, I think they never gave up. They came back the whole time and put us under a lot of pressure. They are a quality side, but I still think that we have loads of work to do and we are growing as a side," Venter added.

Meanwhile, Cheetahs head coach Rory Duncan believes his side will grow in confidence after this victory.

"I would like to think that the players will draw confidence from this game and realise what they are capable of," said Duncan.

"Obviously Leinster is a quality team, but I really think our boys put in a great effort and I am confident that this is the standard that they set for themselves."
