Read wanted more tries

Read said he would have liked to score a couple more tries but the effort had been there and the Australians hadn't given up.

The dynamic All Blacks embarrassed the Wallabies six tries to one and have now lost only once to the Australians in their last 14 encounters.

Read said even in spite of the margin of the win, it had still been tough out in the middle.

"I think the performance from our boys was outstanding. We came here and didn't really know what was going to be the result and we just had to fight really hard," Read said.

"The boys certainly worked for it so you've got to be pretty happy and have a smile on your face after that.

"We'll look at the tape and the things we can improve on for next week.

"I would have loved to score more tries, but Australia did not give up – they were fighting.

"An Australian team is certainly not going to give up and they showed that right to the end so we'll look at the tape to see things we can improve on for next week."

Head coach Steve Hansen thought his side was outstanding and that they have a team of athletes who knew what the requirements of their skills sets were. He said they had worked on the Wallabies all through Super Rugby season and they were able to demonstrate them in Sydney.

"We went in with a mindset to exert ourselves on the game to play with an intensity and a pace and skill set that suits us and not them. Things went our way and the Australians lost a couple of players to head injuries and the ball went our way so we'll take it.

"We've got to regroup, get our feet back on the ground firmly and really prepare well next week," Hansen said.

When Nathan Harris was injured it was unfortunate but Dane Coles had put his hand up and said he was ok so they had gone with him. Hansen said it was always on that he might have to come on and play the first few minutes.

"Coles was courageous and we knew if we could get him away this week without having to play then we wouldn't have any more troubles with his ribs. He's done that, and done it easy, so he's a champion," he added.

While the All Blacks had one hand on retaining the Bledisloe Cup Hansen refused to get over-confident.

"The big thing is you don't get to keep it until you've got both hands on it and we've still got a job to do," he stated.
