Britz: Sunwolves will deliver at Newlands
The Sunwolves' second season in Super Rugby went from bad to worse after conceding 14 tries en route to a 7-94 loss to the Lions in Johannesburg at the weekend.
The Sunwolves task does not get any easier this week as they travel to Cape Town to face the Stormers – who gas already qualified for the play-offs, after outscoring the Cheetahs 40-34 victory in Bloemfontein at the weekend.
Britz said that the Sunwolves will pick themselves up for the match against the Stormers.
"I really wish we could have given a better game [aganst the Lions]," Britz said.
However, it's our character, we will keep on fighting. We will never go down and I can promise you we will be better next week, we will always keep on fighting," insisted Britz.
Sunwolves coach Filo Tiatia added that he was disappointed in his side's performance.
When asked whether the Sunwolves belong in Super Rugby after such a lacklustre effort, he responded that with more time and experience in the competition the the Japanese franchise will become more competitive.
"The reality is that a lot of these Super teams have been involved in Super Rugby for 22 years.
"This is our second season and we understand that we need to be better in the competition," Tiatia said.
The Sunwolves have managed to pick up significant results during their two seasons in Super Rugby – they drew 17-all with the Stormers in Singapore in 2016 and they recorded their only victory in the 2017 Super Rugby tournament with a 21-20 victory over the Bulls in Tokyo.
Tiatia pointedf to these results and added that the Sunwolves are capable of competing with the top Super Rugby teams.
However, he stressed that their performances are not consistent enough at the moment to achieve this goal.
"If we look back at our performances, it is clear we can compete with really good teams," he said.
"We just got to be consistent in producing those performances."
The result leaves the Sunwolves sitting bottom of the combined Super Rugby table, with seven points from 13 matches – with one win and 12 defeats.
