Seu, who also had an arm injury end his 2017 Super season, suffered a lumbar spine fracture in the match against the Hurricanes on April 13.

The news of Seu's back injury comes at a crucial time for the franchise, who are preparing to take on the in-form Jaguares in Rotorua on Friday.

According to Stuff, there was also confirmation that flyhalf Tiaan Falcon's hand problem will keep out of action for three to four weeks while utility back Sam McNicol's battle with a concussion will force him out of the campaign – bringing to eight the number of players the club have had scratched for the season.

The Chiefs are also anxiously waiting for an update on talisman  Damian McKenzie (concussion) and wing Sean Wainui (shoulder) following the match against the Reds in Brisbane before the bye.
