Du Preez reflects on what could have been

The Hurricanes stole a late winner, a converted try in the 86th minute, to beat the Sharks 38-37 last Friday.

It was a heartbreaking defeat for the Durban side after they dominated the Hurricanes for large periods of the game.

"It was a step up from the previous week's game against the Blues [which the Sharks won 63-40 in Auckland] and I'm very happy with that," said Du Preez in an interview on the team's website.

"I thought the guys did everything to win the game, but in the end, it was really disappointing to lose because the boys threw everything into it."

Du Preez was disappointed with the way his team let the Hurricanes back into the game near the end.

"We leaked two soft tries that I'm not happy about," he added. "We should have closed the game out in the end, that's a negative to me because we had every opportunity to do that and we didn't.

"Overall, although we lost, it was a very positive effort from the boys and I’m proud of them."
