Kwagga: The team makes me look good

Smith has been in exceptional form throughout the 2017 Super Rugby season and his outstanding contributions towards the Lions efforts continued with two tries against in a 94-7 win over the Sunwolves at Ellis Park this past weekend.

The Lions have now won 13 of 14 games and are in second place on the combined table, with 61 points – trailing the unbeaten Crusaders (63 points) by two points.

Smith deflected the praise away from him and gave credit to his team for his outstanding form – explaining how the Lions set such high expectations at which every player is required to perform.

"I think for me it's easy to play that well and to perform if the team's performing and we play well together," he said.

"I think that makes you a brilliant player if you can slot into a team," Smith added.

Smith will be looking to continue with his fine run of form when the Lions travel to Durban to take on the Sharks in their final game of the 2017 Super Rugby regular season on July 15.

The Lions have a bye this week and Smith said the players will take time off to recover from a long season, before they get ready for the business end of the tournament.

"I think for us this is key to preparation," he said.

"It's great to have a bye week, to rest the bodies a bit and to work hard for the Sharks.

"Then, after that, we have to go for the quarterfinals," Smith added.
