Ngatai out of quarterfinal against Stormers

Ngatai did not travel with the rest of the Chiefs team to Cape Town after he picked up an ankle injury in his side's 28-10 victory over the Brumbies last weekend.

"His ankle just wasn't good enough," Chiefs coach Dave Rennie said in an interview on stuff.co.nz

"We're not in a position to take a risk, you're only allowed to bring 25 guys away, so it gives us a couple of spare guys, but we needed to make sure that if we got any illness or injury late in the week, that we had suitable cover."

Meanwhile, Dominic Bird (concussion) and Liam Messam (hamstring) are back to full fitness and are both available for selection this week.

All Blacks trio Brodie Retallick, Sam Cane and Lienert-Brown, who were rested last weekend after a tough series against the British and Irish Lions, are also back to strengthen the Chiefs.
